Beaver Brook

Inevitably, in the middle of every August, I find myself longing for a month-long retreat in the woods, in a small cabin surrounded by tall trees. It’s not as if I grew up spending my summers in forested areas where the nights are dark and still, but it’s always been a dream. Someday, I’ll have a little cabin somewhere, probably on the West Coast, where a morning stroll takes me to cliffs and the Pacific Ocean. For now, I’m daydreaming about this little place called Beaver Brook.

Do you find yourself wanting a retreat right about now? Where would you go?

  1. This looks gorgeous! It is always good to get away from regular life and routines especially when it involves spending time in the woods or by the water. I hope, though, that even if you can flee to someplace more wild, maybe you can find some other sort of escape to relax and get a fresh perspective.

  2. Absolutely blissful. The first picture seems out of the Lord of the Rings. I have always been attracted to the woods, and can wait for the day when I can take a holiday in a cabin.

  3. We’re really fortunate to have lots of state parks with cabins and lodges to stay in here in Kentucky. I wish I had a weekend free to visit one! My family used to spend a weekend at a different state park every year and I always sat and wrote stories during those trips. They were silly seventh-grade stories, but oh, did I have fun writing them.

  4. We’re on the same wave length, Brandi! I’ve been dreaming of a cabin in the woods lately too. My friends and I are planning a Thanksgiving retreat in the mountains this year. Those pictures are pure bliss!

  5. Can’t say I am as I’m finishing vacations; so, feeling rested and “compensated” but I always get that sense when I’m too tired… craving some place where I “belong”.
Could very well be Beaver Brook and the pictures you shared are amazing.
    Thank you!

  6. b and i were talking about owing a super small cabin for weekends in the future. some place to go and get away from it all. that sounds more appealing every day.
